Spitfire, the leading voice and data solution provider, has installed a wi-fi Internet access solution for the Royal Geographical Society at the society’s headquarters in Kensington, London. Spitfire supplied and installed a Cisco 4402 Wireless LAN Controller with Aironets to provide wireless Internet access for staff, members and visitors within the building.

Established in 1830, the Royal Geographical Society seeks to advance geographical science and support its practitioners. With about 15,000 members it is the largest and most active scholarly geographical society in the world. The society welcomes 150,000 people a year to events and activities for both members and the public. All will now be able to access the Internet via the 10M wi-fi circuit provided by Spitfire.

Spitfire is a Cisco Select Registered Partner able to offer its customers the Cisco product portfolio of network solutions together with after sales service and support. As an existing customer the Royal Geographical Society benefits from Spitfire’s comprehensive service that extends from designing and implementing a telephony and data communications network to providing line rental and call billing, with complete after sales technical support and customer service.

Commenting on the wi-fi solution, Dominic Estall, IT Manager for the Royal Geographical Society said, “With Internet access for e-mail and information becoming ever more essential, it was important for us to be able to provide wi-fi Internet for our members and other visitors. We particularly wanted this implemented prior to our annual conference, held in August and Spitfire we are able to do this. We are pleased with the result.”
